The base is made of beech wood, the head of willow wood and the nose of laburnum. They are finished with Hampshire Sheen's Citrus Burnishing Oil. The hat is made of ash wood, lacquered black and then finished with Hampshire Sheen's Microcrystalline wax together with Emma Cook's Chameleon pigment. The glass bubble is iridescent and hand-blown. It was bought as a kit together with the LED lights from Emma Cook. The LED lights use 2 CR2032. The LED lights are not glued in place and can therefore be replaced on the day they no longer work.
The wooden parts that are attached to the glass bubble are glued with a very flexible glue so that the bubble does not crack when the wood moves.
